If the fee would keep you from getting an evaluation, tell us. We would much rather work something out than have cost stand in the way. There is a box for it on the request form, or you can raise it during your free consultation.
What the fee covers
The fee covers the whole evaluation: the evaluation itself by secure video, a conversation in which your findings are explained in plain language with time for your questions, and a written report for you to keep. Every report is co-signed by a supervising licensed psychologist.
That is also why an evaluation costs more than a therapy session. An evaluation includes the time spent with you and the work that happens afterward to bring the results together and write them up.
Which evaluation do you need?
You do not have to work that out alone. The right evaluation depends on the question you want answered and on who is asking for it. A broader question, or one where more than one thing could be going on, may need a full battery of several measures. We talk it through with you first and tell you which evaluation fits before you commit to anything.

Why evaluations are private-pay
We do not bill evaluations to insurance. Ongoing therapy with our team is different: it is usually billed to insurance, and our insurance and fees page lists the plans we are in network with. If you hope your plan will pay you back for an evaluation, ask the plan what it needs before you book, then ask us what paperwork we can provide.
Your right to a Good Faith Estimate
If you do not have insurance or are not using it, you have the right to a Good Faith Estimate of what your care is expected to cost. You can ask for one before you schedule. The full notice is on our insurance and fees page.
Before you pay for any evaluation
These questions are worth asking wherever you go, including here:
- If a school, employer, agency or testing organization asked for the evaluation, what exactly do they need, and who must sign the report?
- Is there a deadline, and can the evaluator meet it?
- What is the total cost, in writing, and what does it include?
- Will I get a written report, and will someone explain the findings to me?
We cannot promise that any organization will accept a report, so please check their requirements first and share them with us. Our guide on whether online evaluations are accepted explains what to ask.
Questions about cost
How much does a psychological evaluation cost?
At Locascio Wellness an autism evaluation is $1,800 and a full battery, which uses several measures, is $2,200. The cost of other evaluations depends on what is involved, and you receive it in writing before anything is scheduled. Evaluations are private-pay, and a sliding scale is available if the fee is a barrier.
How much does an adult autism evaluation cost?
An autism evaluation at Locascio Wellness is $1,800. It is carried out by secure video and ends with your findings explained in plain language and a written report. It is private-pay and not billed to insurance. A sliding scale is available, so tell us if the fee would keep you from going ahead.
How much does an ADHD evaluation cost?
It depends on what your evaluation needs to cover, so we do not quote one figure for every ADHD evaluation. For reference, a full battery, which uses several measures, is $2,200. We talk through what you need in a free 15-minute consultation and give you the cost in writing before anything is scheduled. A sliding scale is available.
Does insurance cover a psychological evaluation?
Evaluations at Locascio Wellness are private-pay, which means we do not bill them to insurance. That is different from ongoing therapy with us, which is usually billed to insurance. If you hope to be reimbursed by your plan, ask your plan what it requires before you book, and ask us what paperwork we can provide.
What is the sliding scale?
A sliding scale means the fee can be lowered when the standard fee would keep someone from getting an evaluation. Tick the sliding scale box on the request form, or raise it during your free consultation. We would much rather work something out than have cost stand in the way, and asking does not commit you to anything.
Will I know the cost before I commit?
Yes. You receive the cost in writing before anything is scheduled. If you are not using insurance, you also have the right to a Good Faith Estimate of the expected charges, and you can ask for one before you schedule. Nothing is booked until you say yes.
Can I use an HSA or FSA to pay for an evaluation?
The rules for health savings and flexible spending accounts are set by your plan, so ask your plan administrator whether a psychological evaluation qualifies. Then ask us at your consultation how payment works and what paperwork we can give you. We will tell you plainly what we can and cannot provide.
Is the first conversation really free?
Yes. The first step is a free 15-minute consultation. We talk through what you need, who is asking for the evaluation and any deadline, and we tell you honestly whether we are the right fit. There is no charge for it and no obligation to go ahead.
